Race 5 – Canadian Club Sprint – The first of the two $100,000 Group 1 races here and it contains three very strong trotters who are expected to battle it out for the win. Lennytheshark has a phenomenal career record which ensures he is always a top chance every time he races. He’s had 59 races, with just 5 producing a finish outside the top 3. He’s as strong over the mile as he is in the much longer runs, making him a powerful and consistent runner who is hard to bet against. Bling It On has 42 wins and 17 places in his 74 race career and is also equally adept at the short races as the long. His recent form is better than the favourite which will ensure a magnificent battle between these two. Have Faith In Me and Yayas Hot Spot are both in strong form and can cause some concern for the front runners.
Betting: Lennytheshark $1.70; Bling It On $4.20; Have Faith In Me $4.40; Tiger Tara $14.00; Hug The Wind $17.00.
Race 6 – Allied Express Sprint – The second Group 1 race also appears to be a three horse race. Hectorjayjay will start as the short priced favourite despite a poor finish last start. Prior to that he had won 4 of 5 races, running second in the other. He’s been rested for three weeks leading into this race, so he’ll be keen here. Smolda had won four straight races before his last start sixth at Melton. He’s a classy trotter that rarely who doesn’t put back to back bad performances together. Expect far better here. Salty Robyn is in the best form of all the horses here, having run third last start, ending a five race winning streak. He loves this distance, winning 13 times in 18 starts over the mile. Deserves respect.
Betting: Hectorjayjay $1.40; Smolda $4.80; Salty Robyn $8.50; Allblack Stride $9.00; Tact Tate $18.00.
