Race 7 – Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup – The second week of Group 1 feature racing at Doomben will see the $650,000 Doomben Cup headline. This horse race has two favourites who are paying generously which shows just how strong this field is. It’s Somewhat is the first of the two favourites and comes into this in hot form, winning all three of his races since resuming, all of which were by less than half a length. Articus is also favourite after a good last start victory at Flemington. He’ll be third up here and is looking dangerous. Amelie’s Star had a tight last start win at Morphettville. Has some improvement in him and will need it for this. Star Exhibit had a great finish to his last stint, picking up a win, a second place and a pair of victories before taking a 4 month spell. He resumed 3 weeks ago and continued his form, winning a tight contest at Caulfield. Could cause some worry here amongst the more fancied options.
Betting: It’s Somewhat $4.20; Articus $4.20; Amelie’s Star $8.00; Sense Of Occasion $10.00; Single Glaze $10.00; Maurus $12.00; Star Exhibit $14.00.
