There have been 28 games between these two sides, with each team picking up 14 wins apiece. The Power have won the last three clashes, with the most recent coming in Round 14 this year, where they won by 31 points.
Port Adelaide opened the season with a commanding win over Grand Finalists and the highly fancied Sydney by a comfortable 28 point margin. In Round 2 the Power then annihilated Fremantle with a 145-56 victory. They then lost a heated local derby against Adelaide by 17 before the Giants handed the Power their second loss in as many weeks. In Round 5 the Power hammered Carlton by 90 points, then they smashed Brisbane by 83 before going down to West Coast by 10 in Round 7. They bounced back with a 72 point flogging of the Suns in Round 8. Port went down by two against Geelong then beat the Hawks by 41. The Bombers flogged Port in Round 12 by 70 before the Power bounced back with a 40 point win over the Lions. The see-sawing form continued with a 31 point win over Brisbane and a 13 point loss to Richmond. Port then beat the Eagles by 32 and then annihilated the Roos by 70 before falling by 23 points to Melbourne. After they beat the Saints by 2 minors, the Power were thumped by cross city rivals Adelaide last week, to the tune of 84 points.
Collingwood started their 2017 campaign with a 14 point loss to the defending premiers, the Western Bulldogs. In Round 2 the Magpies again failed to be victorious, losing to the Tigers 99-80, however they put on a much improved effort last week when they beat the highly fancied, yet winless Sydney Swans by just a single point. The Magpies lost by 14 points to the Saints in Round 4 before losing again to the Bombers by 3 goals. In Round 6 the beat Geelong by 29 before dropping a game to rivals Carlton by 79-56. The Magpies lost to GWS by 3 the following week before turning around their form, picking up 3 straight wins against the Hawks by 3 goals, Brisbane by 45 points and then Fremantle by 20. They suffered a tight 4 point loss to the Dees before having a bye. They then lost by 31 points to the Power, lost by 6 goals to the Hawks and 37 points against the Bombers before reversing their form with back to back wins against the Suns by 15 and West Coast by 8 points. In Round 19 the Magpies had a draw with the Crows before hammering the Roos by 9 goals last weekend.
Mentally – The Magpies are in top form right now while the Power have been very poor of late. The weight of expectation is weighing heavily on Port.
The Power are very strong at home but will take on a desperate and confident Magpies side. This will be close.
