Round 3 of the Champions League continues on Thursday morning where two powerhouse sides meet when Barcelona hosts Manchester City.
Manchester City: Bravo; Sagna, Stones, Otamendi, Kolarov; Sane, Gundogan, Fernandinho, Silva, Sterling; Aguero.
Barcelona: ter Stegen; Pique, Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta; Suarez, Neymar, Mascherano; Alcacer, Alba, Roberto.
These two outfits have met on four previous occasions, all recent and all being won by Barcelona. The first clash was in the 2013/14 Champions League where Barcelona won 2-0 and 2-1 in the return match. They met again in the Champions League last season where the results were a little closer, Barcelona winning 2-1 and 1-0.
Manchester City began their Champions League with a convincing 4-0 hiding of Monchengladbach but were disappointing in their second round, being held to a 3 all draw with Celtic. It ended their ten game winning streak, across all competitions, that began in their first game of the season . They have since lost 2-0 to Spurs and held to a 1 all draw with Everton.
Barcelona opened their Champions League campaign with a resounding 7-0 decimation of Celtic. They won again in the second round, but were far less convincing, edging out Monchengladbach 2-1. They have won 9 and drawn 1 of their twelve games in all competitions so far this season and boast one of the best midfields in the world.
Midfield: Man City just may opt to run with four midfielders in an attempt to combat the powerful mid of Barcelona, sporting Suarez, Neymar and Mascherano.
Manchester City have gone off the boil somewhat in their last three matches, and if they cannot recapture some of their winning form and shut down the Barcelona midfield, they will find themselves falling well short of victory.
