Round 26 of the English Premier League will get underway this weekend, with Burnley playing hosts to League leaders Manchester City.
Burnley: Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward; Gudmundsson, Cork, Defour, Brady; Hendrick, Barnes.
Manchester City: Ederson; Kompany, Stones, Otamendi; Walker, Fernandinho, Sane, De Bruyne, Silva; Aguero, Jesus.
There have been 91 League games between these two sides, with City holding a lead of 39 wins to 28, while 24 matches have been drawn. Their last league clash was earlier this season where the Citizens won 3-0.
Burnley have proven to be a tough outfit to defeat so far. They opened with an impressive 3-2 win over defending champions Chelsea before dropping their next game 1-0 to West Brom. They then had a draw with heavyweight side Tottenham, a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. They then had successive draws against Liverpool and Huddersfield before beating Everton 1-0 and then locked 1 all with West Ham. They suffered their second loss of the year when they went down 3-0 to Manchester City, but bounced back with three straight wins against Newcastle, Southampton and Swansea. Burnley then lost to Arsenal and Leicester either side of a 2-1 win over Bournemouth. They then scored back to back 1-0 wins over Watford and Stoke before being held to a scoreless draw against Brighton. They then lost 3-0 to Spurs before securing back to back draws against Man U and Huddersfield. The new year has seen them winless thus far, losing to Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Manchester United before scoring a 1 all draw with lowly Newcastle last week.
Manchester City have started this season in blistering form, sitting atop the table after 10 rounds, yet to lose a game. They won their opening League game against newly promoted side Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0. In the second round of the Premier League, Man City were surprisingly held to a 1 all draw with Everton. They survived a shock equaliser against Bournemouth to hit back with a goal and win 2-1 in Round 3. They’ve won every game since, starting with a 5-0 hiding of Liverpool, a 6-0 flogging of Watford and 5-0 thrashing of lowly Crystal Palace. They then beat defending champions Chelsea 1-0, belted Stoke 7-2 and then Burnley 3-0. They snuck home 3-2 against West Brom and then beat Arsenal 3-1 and Leicester City 2-0. They struggled against Huddersfield, Southampton and Hammers in the next three games, but won all of them by the same 2-1 scoreline. City then beat rivals Man United 2-1 before last weeks 4-0 hiding of Swansea. They then were in blistering form as they put away Spurs 4-1 and Bournemouth 4-0 before a dip produced a 1-0 win over the out of form Newcastle and then a scoreless draw with the lowly Palace. They hit back with comfortable wins over Watford 3-1 and Burnley 4-1. The Citizens suffered their first loss of the season when they fell to Liverpool 4-3, before hitting back with three straight wins against Newcastle 3-1, Cardiff 2-0 and West Brom 3-0.
Front 2 – Defensively, very little separates these sides, but in attack, Manchester City are phenomenally more powerful.
Burnley have to take full advantage of every chance they get if they are to have any success here. City should be too good.
