The final round of the English Premier League kicks off with a lopsided contest when first placed Chelsea are at home to last placed Sunderland.
Chelsea: Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Luiz, Azpilicueta; Kante, Willian, Matic, Oscar, Hazard; Costa.
Sunderland: Pickford; Manquillo, Kone, O’Shea, van Aanholt; Rodwell, Ndong, Pienaar, Watmore, Khazri; Defoe.
There have been 119 League games between these two sides with Chelsea winning 60 to Sunderland’s 38 while 21 have been drawn. Their last clash earlier this season saw Chelsea win 1-0.
The Blues have been impressive all season, winning 20 of their 26 League games so far, dropping just three games against top sides Liverpool 2-1, Arsenal 3-0 and Tottenham 2-0. After picking up clean sheets in six straight League games, Chelsea followed it up with a 2-1 defeat of the previously undefeated Tottenham. They followed that up with wins over Manchester City, West Brom, Sunderland, Palace, Bournemouth and Stoke to give them 13 straight wins. They then suffered just their third loss in the League against Tottenham in their first match of the new year. Chelsea bounced back with a 3-0 win over defending champions Leicester and a 2-0 win over lowly Hull, before a hard fought 1 all draw with Liverpool. They then beat Arsenal 3-1 before a 1 all draw with Burnley. Since then they have won 3 straight games against mid table sides before dropping their game to Crystal Palace 2-1. They have won both of their following games against Man City and Bournemouth before losing 2-0 to Man United last week. They bounced back with a 4-2 win over Southampton, and successive 3-0 wins over Everton and Boro, then beating West Brom 1-0. Last week they beat Watford 4-3.
Sunderland were very slow out of the blocks at the start of the year, which saw them pick up a pair of draws and eight losses to anchor them to the bottom of the Premier League table. They then had 3 wins in 4 games, most notably against defending champions Leicester. They lost two more games before beating Watford 1-0. They’ve struggled ever since, picking up a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace, losing 8 games and picking up just 2 draws before beating Hull 2-0. They have since lost successive games by the scoreline of 2-0 to Swansea and Arsenal.
Pride – Sunderland only have pride left to play for. They’ve run dead last in the league and will be relegated for next season.
Chelsea should romp home here to officially claim the title as Premier League Champions.
