1:00 AM (AEST) Monday, August 28 at Anfield, Liverpool
Round 3 of the Premier League comes to a close on Monday when league heavyweights Liverpool and Arsenal go head to head at Anfield.
Liverpool: Mignolet; Gomez, Lovren, Matip, Robertson; Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum; Firmino, Mane, Salah.
Arsenal: Cech; Monreal, Koscieiny, Mustafi; Kolasinac, Xhaka, Ramsey, Bellerin; Sanchez, Lacazette, Ozil.
186 League games have been played between these two outfits with Liverpool holding a slender lead, picking up 72 wins to the Gunners 64, while 50 games have been drawn. Plenty have goals been scored in the most recent appearances. Last year Liverpool won 4-3 and then 3-1.
Liverpool were the best attacking side in the Premier League for near the entire season before some indifferent late season form saw them drop off slightly. They started off this season with their attack firing when they had a 3 all draw with Watford. Their defence was much improved last week when they beat Crystal Palace 1-0.
Arsenal spent plenty of time last season as one of the top 3 teams on the ladder and were looking set to challenge firmly for the top spot, but an inconsistent run home saw them drop down to fifth place on the table by the end of the year. They opened this season with a tough 4-3 win over Leicester City before surprisingly dropping their second round clash with Stoke 1-0 last weekend.
Forwards – These sides have a history of scoring freely when they meet and there’s little to suggest that won’t be the case again here.
The Reds at home are always a tough assignment, and they are in the marginally better form so far.
