There have been just 17 clashes between these two sides, with The Citizens scoring 9 victories to Watford’s 5 wins, while 3 matches have been drawn. They last met earlier this season where Man City belted the Wasps 6-0.
Manchester City have started this season in blistering form, sitting atop the table after 10 rounds, yet to lose a game. They won their opening League game against newly promoted side Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0. In the second round of the Premier League, Man City were surprisingly held to a 1 all draw with Everton. They survived a shock equaliser against Bournemouth to hit back with a goal and win 2-1 in Round 3. They’ve won every game since, starting with a 5-0 hiding of Liverpool, a 6-0 flogging of Watford and 5-0 thrashing of lowly Crystal Palace. They then beat defending champions Chelsea 1-0, belted Stoke 7-2 and then Burnley 3-0. They snuck home 3-2 against West Brom and then beat Arsenal 3-1 and Leicester City 2-0. They struggled against Huddersfield, Southampton and Hammers in the next three games, but won all of them by the same 2-1 scoreline. City then beat rivals Man United 2-1 before last weeks 4-0 hiding of Swansea. They then were in blistering form as they put away Spurs 4-1 and Bournemouth 4-0 before a dip produced a 1-0 win over the out of form Newcastle and then last week a scoreless draw with the lowly Palace.
The Wasps have made a consistent and solid start to the year. They opened with a 3 all draw against Liverpool before beating Bournemouth 2-0. After a scoreless draw with Brighton, they beat Southampton 2-0 in Round 4. They then had a bad day at the office when Man City hammered them 6-0. Watford bounced back impressively though, beating Swansea 2-1, holding West Brom to a 2 all draw and then bagging an impressive 2-1 win over Arsenal. The Wasps then lost three straight to Chelsea, Stoke and Everton before beating West Ham 2-0 and Newcastle 3-0. They’ve been in poor form since, losing to Manchester United 4-2, Burnley 1-0, Crystal Palace 2-1, Huddersfield 4-1, Brighton 1-0 and Swansea 2-1, while picking up a solitary draw with Spurs and a sole win against Leicester 2-1.
Midfield – Watford is outclassed by Man City in attack and defence, and so will need to be at their best in the middle, so as to limit the number of scoring chances for the Citizens.
Manchester City should win comfortably here.
