1:00 AM (AEST) Monday, September 11 at Liberty Stadium, Swansea
The penultimate game of Round 4 in the English Premier League will take place on Monday between Swansea and newly promoted Newcastle.
Swansea: Fabianski; Naughton, Fernandez, Mawson, Kingsley; Carroll, Britton, Ki; Ayew, Sigurdsson, Llorente.
Newcastle: Elliot; Manquillo, Lascelles, Clark, Lazaar; Merino, Hayden; Ritchie, Perez, Atsu; Gayle.
These two sides have only met 38 times previously in League Games, with Newcastle United winning 19 games to Swansea’s 14. Five other games have been drawn. Their last clash was at the end of the 2015/16 season and saw Newcastle pick up a convincing 3-0 victory.
The Swans started their last season well, before going on a horror run where they failed to a win a game for nigh on 3 months. A late season rally was enough to help them skip clear of the relegation zone, finishing the season with 12 wins from 38 games. Their 2017/18 campaign began with an uninspiring scoreless draw with Southampton, before they were hammered by Manchester United 4-0. They bounced back with a tidy 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
Newcastle spent last season in the Championship after being relegated in 2015-16 from the Premier League. For the most part of the year they were a class above their opponents and finished the season in top spot, earning them automatic promotion back into the Premier League for this season. They had a tough proposition first up, taking on heavyweights Tottenham, going down 2-0. In the second round they lost 1-0 to fellow promoted side Huddersfield before scoring their opening win of the season in Round 3 when they waltzed through the Hammers 3-0.
Midfield – Both sides are very evenly matched across the field, so winning the battle in the middle will be key to gaining the better of the field position and goal scoring opportunities.
Swansea with home ground advantage will be the slight favourites here.
