The quarter finals of the ladies tennis draw at the lucrative US Open at Flushing Meadows will take place this Thursday with two intriguing matches.
Karolina Pliskova  v CoCo Vandeweghe 
Top seed Pliskova survived two scares to make her way through to the quarters here. In Round 1 she made light work of Linette 6-2, 6-1. In the second round she dropped her first set to Nicole Gibbs before winning 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the third round she came up against 27th seed Shuai Zhang and again dropped the first set before narrowly avoiding tie breakers in the next two sets to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. In the Round of 16’s she barely broke a sweat in disposing of Jennifer Brady 6-1, 6-0.
The 20th seed has had a tough run through the US Open. Vandeweghe overcame a dropped first set in Round 1 to Riske, to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. She then had a tough first set against Jabeur before closing the game out 7-6, 6-2. She then had a hard fought battle with Agnieszka Radwanska in a match that lasted almost 3 hours, before coming away with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 victory. She had a tough straight sets win in the fourth round against Lucie Safarova 6-4, 7-6.

Madison Keys  v Kaia Kanepi
The fifteenth seeded Keys has had a lot of tough opposition in her road to the quarters. She beat Mertens 6-3, 7-6 in the first round and Maria 6-3, 6-4 in the second round. She then came up against 17th seed Elena Vesnina, who took the first set but was overpowered by Keys, who won 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Keys then beat the highly fancied Elina Svitolina 7-6, 1-6, 6-4.
The former World number 15 Kanepi has beaten some top quality players to advance to the quarter finals. In the first round she beat former World Number 4 Francesca Schiavone 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. She then made light work of former World number 12 Yanina Wickmayer 6-4, 6-2. In Round 3 she faced top 50 player Naomi Osaka and won a tough battle 6-3, 2-6, 7-6. In Round 4 she beat top 40 player Daria Kasatkina in straight sets 6-4, 6-4
