The quarter finals of the mens tennis draw at the US Open will take place this Thursday with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer both having matches.
Rafael Nadal  v Andrey Rublev
Top seed Nadal has dropped just 2 sets so far at Flushing Meadows this year. After a tough set in Round 1 against Lajovic, he strolled home in straight sets 7-6, 6-2, 6-2. He dropped the first set of his Round 2 clash with Taro Daniel before storming home 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. In Round 3 the Spaniard again dropped the first set before cruising to a 6-7, 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 win against Leonardo Mayer. He then hammered former world number 13 Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 in the round of 16.
The young Russian Rublev has beaten some esteemed company on his path to this major clash which will have surely given him great confidence. The World number 53 beat Bedene in Round 1 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 before pulling off arguably one of the biggest upsets of the tournament when he hammered 7th seed Grigor Dimitrov 7-5, 7-6, 6-3 in Round 2. In Round 3 he dropped his first and only set of the tournament so far against Damir Dzumhur before winning n four, 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Rublev then pulled off the second biggest upset of the tournament in the fourth round when he blitzed 9th seed David Goffin in straight sets 7-5, 7-6, 6-3.

Roger Federer  v Juan Martin del Potro 
The former world number 1 was made to go the distance in his opening two games before finding his grove and decimating his last two opponents. He opened against world number 70 Frances Tiafoe and took 5 sets to beat the teenage American 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. He then battled through another 5 setter with former top 10 player Mikhail Youzhny to come from 2 sets to 1 down to win 6-1, 6-7, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. In the third round, Federer beat 31st seed Feliciano Lopez in just over 90 minutes 6-3, 6-3, 7-5. He then beat Philipp Kohlschreiber just as quickly 6-4, 6-2, 7-5.
The 24th seeded del Potro cruised through his opening three rounds before engaging in a 5 set battle over 3 and a half hours in the round of 16. He opened with a 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 win over Laaksonen. In Round 2 he cruised past Menendez-Maceiras 6-2, 6-3, 7-6. He then wiped the floor with world number 13 Roberto Bautista Agut 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. In Round 5 he came from 2 sets down against 6th seed Dominic Thiem to win a marathon 1-6, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6, 6-4.
